About the Ride: Sassasfras in the Dandenong ranges is the destination however, there are various route options to choose. The decision on which route is usually detailed on the ARC website on the Friday prior to the ride. The most common route is via Burwood Hwy, Mountain Hwy to the Basin then up the 1 in 20 to Sassasfras. Other options via the High St Road, Ferntree Gully then the Devils’s Elbow or Canterbury Rd, Montrose, Kalarama can add an extra degree of difficulty to the ride due to steeper gradient of climbs.

The regular bunch riders usually add one or more additional climbs to the ride before stopping for coffee in Sassasfras. Less experienced or time strapped riders go direct to Sassasfras for coffee before returning to Ashburton.

The return route is usually via decending the 1 in 20, Mountain Hwy, Burwood Hwy to Vermont Sth, Highbury Rd to Burwood and Bath Rd to Ashburton
