About the Ride: Hot Laps are a great way for experianced roadies/racers to get some good training in, and also great for beginners and even recreational roadies. It used to be on Wednesday night, but was changed to Thursdays so as not to clash with Coburg CC ergo sessions.

National boulevard is a 1.8km circuit loacted behind the Ford Factory in Campbellfield. It is used by Coburg CC and the Northern Vets as a Criterium circuit. Its Fast, wide, smooth, well lit and safe.

The stronger guys usually get into a paceline and push hard, while those not interested in vomitting take it at their own pace. The circuit is great beacuse no one really loses contact, even if dropped.

Additional Notes: During the darker months, make sure you bring a decent set of lights. I usually have spares, pump and tools in the car so you dont have to take them if you dont want to.

About the Ride: From Aspendale we ride to St Kilda, with Cafe Racer being the turn around point. Depending on the weather and required return time, we turn at North Road. n the weekend we ride to Cafe Racer for a nice coffee or chai (soy of course). We average around 35-40kms and our rule is, we leave together we return together…leave no one behind. We don’t ride when the wind is blustering at +45Km/hr or raining at scheduled start time.

The route takes riders along picturesque Beach Road in both directions with all participants enjoying the view of the Bay for the entire trip. All genders, ages, nationalities welcome. We expect everyone to respect other riders and abide the road rules without exception.

Additional Notes: No iPods or personal entertainment devices. Too dangerous. Front and rear lights are mandatory for early winter and autumn rides.

About the Ride: This group ride (the “Maling Room Ride” – MRR) has been running since January 2007. The ride starts on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (plus other days if people are interested – most Wednesdays and Fridays at the moment – check last page of the thread for daily updates! see link) at ~6:00 am, at the park on the corner of Canterbury Rd and Avenue Athol, Canterbury. We ride East out Canterbury Rd and take in some of the rolling hills of the Eastern suburbs before returning to Canterbury (see route map linked below). The ride is around 27 km and finishes at 7:00 for coffee at The Maling Room, corner of Maling Rd and Canterbury Rd.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays there are multiple groups on this ride, separated by their speed (slower groups leave earlier). This enables riders of all abilities to join this ride without feeling like they are holding anyone up! The naming of the different groups evolved over the course of a few months and might mean nothing to newcomers!

- “Greyhound” group departs from Avenue Athol at 6:05 am and averages ~32 – 36 km/hour.
- “Rabbit” group departs from Avenue Athol at 6:00 am and averages ~29 – 32 km/hour.
- “Mouse” group departs from Avenue Athol at 5:55 am and averages ~25 – 28 km/hour. Recently this has been the largest group!
- “Cheese” group departs from Avenue Athol at 5:50 am and averages ~21 – 25 km/hour. NOTE – this group only happens occasionally – check the last page of the thread to see if anyone is planning a Cheese run!

If you find that you are struggling to keep up and you don’t want to be left by yourself, please make sure you let someone know, since it is not always easy for riders in the group to keep track of everyone behind them.

People wanting to join these groups should check the forum (link above) the night before the ride to make sure that others are planning to attend, since these groups don’t always exist!

There are Recovery rides most Wednesdays and Fridays, starting 6:00 am at the same start point. These rides are done at a pace that is comfortable for everyone in the group and tend to average around 27 km/h.

There is parking in side streets off Canterbury Rd or in front of the shops opposite the corner of Gwenda Ave. You can also park in Maling Rd (only timed after 8 am) but we have been asked not to park in front of the fruit shop since they get early morning deliveries.

About the Ride: This is a ride from Ashburton to Mordialloc via North Rd then Beach Rd. There is little traffic on the suburban streets at this early hour on the weekend. Beach Rd is a cycling mecca so relatively safe given that the motorists expect to see many cyclist sharing the road. The group rides at speeds in excess of 30km/hr however, this can vary depending on the coastal winds.

The car park at Mordialloc pier is the turning point and the riders stop at Blackrock for coffee on the return. Usually arrive back in Ashburton by 9.30am.

Additional Notes: There are also smaller groups riding to Blackrock (for coffee) and return to Ashburton, total distance 44km. These groups are usually at a slower pace e.g., 20+ km/hr.
